‘My Autistic Big Brother & Me takes you on a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows as it explores the raw and challenging side of autism in adults. A brilliant and extremely personal documentary filmed over 4 years in the mountains of North Wales, that shines a light on the family and carers who make huge sacrifices to give a severely autistic man an unparalleled quality of life roaming the great outdoors, even to the detriment of their own.’
“As someone who has struggled their whole lives with mental wellness issues, who parents a child with a unique set of similar challenges, I found Michael Kay’s My Autistic Big Brother and Me to be an inspiring, moving and educational primer on the most basic nature of human relationships. Digging deeper, it’s a towering testament to love, patience and what it means to sit quietly and hold space with someone we love. Kay has underscored our need to love unconditionally in a world that seemingly won’t let us. We are mistakenly taught that to love is to fix each other’s pain. Perhaps that why so many of us feel like failures in our most important relationships? With Kay’s movie, the nature of which is an ‘unfixable’ challenge, he has redefined both how we should love, and the best way to make that an actionable bond.”
